Castiglione Falletto. Palish ruby. Lifted, exotic and perfumed. Super-expressive cherry nose with hints of raspberry essence and maracuja. Lots of expressive juicy fruit on the palate and with a fine tannic grip. Elegant yet still in an embryonic phase. (WS)

The Parusso 2020 Barolo Mariondino, with fruit from Castiglione Falletto, shows topical papaya, scented candle, dried apricot and waxy Starburst candy. There is ample freshness, and the tannins are stemmy and firm over a mid-weight palate. These vines are planted on typical sandstone marl and sandy soils. Production is 5,000 bottles.
The 2020 Barolo Mariondino is bright, punchy and also a bit nervous. Bright acids and firm tannins give the Mariondino its taut personality. Sandy soils in a cool micro-climate confer aromatic lift. This medium-bodied Barolo is idiosyncratic but also quite pretty.
