Punteggio 92/100 · James Suckling, Dec 2013

A wine with blueberry, chocolate and plum character. This is full-bodied, soft and velvety textured. Very fruity and balanced. Needs a couple of years to come together. Lovely.

Saturated bright, deep red. Knockout perfumed nose combines red cherry liqueur, spices, dried flowers, porcini and tobacco. Plush, sweet, smooth and deep, offering impressive size and breadth to its voluptuous plum and spice flavors. The broad, very long finish shows serious tannic clout and really echoes on the plush, dry aftertaste. Powerful, perfumed, complete Barolo of notable distinction. This is really a separate project and was made in another cellar in 2006 for the first time. Migliorini describes this wine as "my heart." It's made from vines in excess of 40 years of age in what Migliorini calls "the best vineyard in Barolo"; he owns six of the nine hectares.

This is an impressive effort from a beautiful vintage. The 2006 Barolo Riserva Bussia is a gorgeous, dark and brooding Barolo with balanced acidity and structure presented with a full rainbow of aromas. Rosehip, wild berry, ginger and spice all stand to attention. What sets the wine apart is the pure intensity and clarity of the bouquet. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. The 2006 Barolo Riserva wraps around the palate with serious density, weight and sheer power. Rich, voluptuous and totally seductive, the 2006 is remarkable open and accessible for the year, although it remains fresh and vibrant. In another few years, the tannins will soften further, and the wine will be even more accessible. The 2006 spent 30 months in French oak – too long in my view – followed by several months in cement prior to being bottled.
