Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2023-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2021

The 2015 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito is the most potent of these new releases from Germano. The oak imprint for this wine still feels a bit too much, even if the Lazzarito is not as heavy or concentrated as it has been in some recent years. Ripe red cherry fruit, dried flowers, cedar and sweet vanillin give the Lazzarito its extroverted personality.

The 2015 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito (with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba) shows a generous, full-bodied consistency, with dark fruit, spice, baking clove and other dustings of exotic spice, such as cardamom and clove. That spiciness washes through the bouquet, and you can feel it on the palate, where the wine is structured and firm. Some 4,500 bottles were released.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2022-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2021

The 2015 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito saw a long maceration of 55-60 days in stainless steel prior to 30-36 months aging in large French oak. It is highly aromatic with confected mixed berry fruit, cherry licorice, crushed violets, and melded baking spice. There is persistent saline minerality on the palate, with dried cranberry, orange zest, and clove. Drink 2022-2040. Founded in 1856, Ettore Germano is a fourth-generation winery currently under the oversight of Sergio Germano. They have 10 hectares of holdings in Serralunga d’Alba and nine hectares in Ciglie in Alta Langa.

Serralunga d'Alba. Total skin contact of 55 days. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep, brooding fruit mixed with complex aromatic oak notes and a suggestion of tobacco leaf. Fantastic palate of crunchy raspberry and cranberry fruit holding up effortlessly with the rich, chewy tannins. Lots of energy on the tactile, fresh finish. Elegant! (WS)
