Note di degustazione
The 2013 Volnay Clos de la Cave is showing brilliantly today, wafting from the glass with a perfumed bouquet of wild berries, rose petals, orange rind, coniferous forest floor and warm spices. It's medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, with melting tannins, bright acids and a layered core of fruit. When this wine was served blind, I initially mistook it for Bouley's Volnay Caillerets.

The 2013 Volnay Clos de la Cave 1er Cru has a tart cherry bouquet whilst the palate is showing just a little stemminess, but there is plenty of straightforward brambly red fruit towards the finish that just feels a little clipped at the moment. I am looking for a bit more density here. Tasted at Goedhuis & Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London.
Mid cherry red. Peppery and lightly herbal/stemmy but fully ripe. A bit flat on the mid palate, lightly chewy. Lacks verve. (JH)
Greater density than the regular Volnay, but still quite pinched and aggressive, especially at the end. Really needs some fruit to fill in the corners! (AH)
