Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2022-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2022

The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Chiaramanti from Ca' Rome' is packed with black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, menthol, leather and heavy torrefaction notes. There is good depth, but also no way to look past the early oxidative notes and an overall feeling of heaviness. I would prefer to drink this over the next few years.

The 2017 Barbaresco Chiaramanti is a very pretty, forward Barbaresco that will drink well right out of the gate. Crushed rose petal, sweet red berry fruit and cinnamon are some of the nuances that build as this racy, mid-weight Barbaresco shows all it has to offer. This is very nicely done.

Giuseppe Marengo's Ca' Rome' 2017 Barbaresco Chiaramanti is a hot-vintage expression with dark fruit, blackberry and heavily oak-driven aromas. Those consist of spice, tar and toasted hazelnut. The primary fruit has some difficulty breaking through. Fruit is harvested from a site with compact blue marl soils that are rich in magnesium. The wine goes through Slavonian oak for 12 months and finishes its aging in barrique for an additional eight months. There is a bitter point of astringency on the close. A mere 3,000 bottles were released.
