The 2018 Barbaresco Riserva Chiaramanti is a pretty, if somewhat nervy, mid-weight offering from Ca' Rome'. Hints of dark cherry, plum, licorice, leather and incense open nicely. I would prefer to drink this over the near and medium term given the lighter structure and overall depth of the year.

Romano Marengo's Ca’ Rome’ 2018 Barbaresco Chiaramanti reveals a textured and soft approach with some ripe fruit and blackberry backed by spice and tarry smoke. The thick fiber of this mid-weight wine cedes to integrated tannins and rich fruit concentration.
The 2018 Barbaresco Chiaramanti is a soft, fruity wine to drink now and over the next decade. Succulent red cherry, red plum, cedar, spice and rose petal all meld together as this sensual inviting Barbaresco reveals its charms. All the elements are so nicely balanced.
Full bottle 1,376 g. Cinnamon-spiced and warming. Stemmy framework but at the heart, the fruit is plush-red and juicy and spicy. Lots of dry, muscular grip in those tannins and quite a bit of heat. The tannins could certainly do with more time, but this will always be a hot wine. Might need Szechaun-peppered dishes to cool it down. (TC)
