Very reticent nose hints at flowers, menthol, spicy oak and crushed rock. Then a bit fatter in the mouth than the Vergers but showing less detail and verve to its flavors of apple, menthol and marzipan. I find this a bit short on fruit sweetness, even austere today. Finishes with good persistence, but I'm not yet convinced that aging will increase its pleasure quotient.

Dense soils, old vines. Just behind the cellar overlooking the plain. Tank sample. Sweet rather than savoury nose. Very dancing and lively on the palate. Here you really can see the power of those overripe berries! Another very glamorous wine. Very slightly bitter on the end. (JR)
(barely 20 hectoliters per hectare produced, according to Colin): Slightly reduced, restrained nose hints at lemon drop and crushed rock. At once fine-grained and fairly dense, showing very good lift and grip for a wine from this producer. Displays very good lemon and saline mineral cut along with a subtle touch of sweetness and a persistent, firm finish. The youngest vines here are now 35 years of age, and they've been producing much better wine since the turn of the new century, says Colin.
