Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2018-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jun 2016

An aroma of lemon is complicated by yellow and white flowers. Concentrated, juicy and classic, with its flavors of white peach and flowers conveying an irresistibly sappy, gulpable quality. Classic fresh Chassagne with real grip and length. The Bachelet brothers make this rather powerful village wine very reductively.

The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet Village, which comes from six parcels around the appellation, was taciturn on the nose, reserved and refusing to come out to play from barrel. The palate is tightly wound, very saline and inward looking at the moment, though there is fine tension and a touch of spiciness towards the finish. Afford this at least two years in bottle.

(the Bachelet brothers made about 12,000 bottles of this wine in 2014, and a bit more of their Puligny villages ): Bright, light yellow-green. Pure but reticent aromas of pear and white flowers. Less expressive than the Saint-Aubin but concentrated and tactile, showing a juicy saline quality and strong soil tones. Made mostly from parcels next to premier crus, this wine is very tight in the early going.
