All of the fruit in the 2015 Barolo Enrico VI comes from Villero, the vineyards just outside the town walls of Castiglione Falletto. These calcareous limestone clay soils, with lots of iron and magnesium, traditionally allow for more finesse and lighthearted elegant aromas. However, this warm vintage shows more black fruit and is characterized by balsamic and other herbal intensity with licorice and aniseed. It offers great structure and a richness that really sticks to the palate. This would be a great choice for lamb with mint sauce.

Castiglione Falletto. Tasted blind. Very deep ruby – new oak? Huge depth and concentration on the nose and the fruit has almost completely wrapped up the sweet oak. Opulence and depth of fruit on the palate with a flirty oak note and hints of dried fruit. Very generous and round and nicely kept together by gorgeous, chewy tannins. Succulent, long and hedonistic. The 2015 Barolo Enrico VI is the most focused and nuanced of the three Cordero di Montezemolo Barolos I tasted. Medium in body, with lovely detail, the Enrico VI shows the more finessed side of the year nicely. Although a bit reticent today, the Enrico VI has much to say once it softens a bit in bottle.
Coal dust and graphite with some very attractive, sweetly ripe plums and cherries. Tarry accents, too. The juicy tannins are captivating, drawing fresh and zesty red-fruit flavors in long, upbeat fashion. Launches long and holds in succulent, impressive form. Drink this from 2022.
