Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2021-2039, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

Notes of peonies and rose, mingled with aromas of wild berries and warm spices, introduce the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots, a medium to full-bodied, ample and perfumed wine that's supple and charming, with melting tannins and lively acids. It's an especially sensual rendering of this site.

Punteggio 87-89/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2019 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru includes 100% whole bunch this year, the second time this has been done after 2015. (Eric said it might be the last time, as it renders the wine more technique than terroir.) It comes from four parcels of 70-year-old vines (on average) that are low-yielding. There is a lot of massal selection here that tends to produce small berries and lignified stems. I have to agree with Eric that the stem addition overrides the terroir, making the wine attractive but a little generic in terms of technique. The palate is medium-bodied with a leafy, peppery opening. Nicely balanced with good acidity, yet the stem addition does exert too much influence, to the point where it is difficult to distinguish commune.
