Domaine Paul Pernot has the largest holding of Premier Cru Folatières – with three parcels that produce arguably the most complete expression of the site and a standard-bearer for this Puligny-Montrachet-based estate. The nose is chalky and pure, but beneath that minerality is layer upon layer of rich fruit – with mango and sweet peach. There’s a decadence to the fruit here, with a glossy texture, round and full, with honey and the weight of fruit filling the long finish.

Outstanding - A mild whiff of the exotic is present in the form of white peach, tangerine peel, passion fruit and discreet floral wisps. There is an equally lovely texture to the medium-bodied flavors that possess more power if not quite the same minerality on the youthfully austere finale. I would add that this is also sufficiently forward as to allow it to be enjoyed after only a few years of keeping though it should have no trouble rewarding up to a decade of it. Drink 2029+
Plenty of oak in evidence, giving the wine a somewhat old-fashioned air – caramel and toffee popcorn. It's sensuous and opulent, but almost a little too much. Certainly makes an impression, but I'd quite like a bit more nerve and edge. (TC)
The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a very small reduction on the nose alongside scents of clementine, pear and just a hint of stem ginger. The palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity and good concentration, though you could argue that it just misses the level of mineralité that some of its Folatières peers offer.
