The 2019 Volnay Village has a lovely red plum and blackcurrant bouquet with very fine delineation and poise. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, just slightly confit-like towards the finish, but with fine tension and energy. Maybe this will have the edge of the '20, though it's clutching between straws.

Notes of smoky berry fruit, spices and loamy soil introduce Clerget's 2019 Volnay Village, a medium-bodied, bright and lively wine with a pretty core of fruit, nicely refined tannins and bright acids.
The 2019 Volnay Village comes from two parcels, "Petit Gamets" and "Echards", and sees no new oak, 100% de-stemmed. It has a fragrant bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and redcurrants, a touch of rose petals emerging - quite "Lafarge" like in style. The palate is well balanced with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, gentle and caressing, a Volnay that will surely be approachable in its youth thanks to its elegance. Lovely.
Two parcels: Echarts and Petit Gamay. No new oak. Cask sample. Nice perfume – really quite aromatic. A little bit of oak in evidence on the end of the palate but refreshing and true to Volnay. Lightly chewy on the end. (JR)
