0.4 ha (1 acre); 50% Le Charlemagne, 50% En Charlemagne. Mid-pale lemon. Curiously not as explosive as the Clos Blanc de Vougeot but showing real volume and flesh. Complex nose of apple, peach, citrus and ginger-led spice. I feel there’s a humdinger just waiting in the wings. Powerful, intense and currently far from unfurled. (MH)

The 2021 Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from two parcels, the En Charlemagne lieu-dit picked a week after Le Charlemagne. This has one of my favourite noses from Vougeraie; it's quite refined and complex, more mineral-driven with hints of dried white flowers. The palate is well balanced with a tangy opening, fresh and crisp with a touch of bitter lemon and orange rind towards the finish. This should age well in bottle and conveys a sense of class.

Situato a sud di Nuits-Saint-Georges, a Prémeaux-Prissey, il Domaine de la Vougeraie è stato creato nel 1999, raggruppando sotto un unico nome tutti i possedimenti di Jean-Claude Boisset. La proprietà conta un totale di 40 ettari di vigneti, con ampie tenute a Vougeot e parcelle in sei Grands Crus.
