Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2020

The 2017 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is a plump, Merlot-driven Pauillac that will drink well in a few years, once the tannins have softened a bit. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, menthol, lavender and spice are nicely pushed forward in this attractive second wine from Clerc Milon. Pastourelle is released when the château believes it is ready to drink, so readers won't find it in the market for another few years.

The 2017 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, which comprises of 65% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, has a fragrant bouquet with brambly black fruit, pressed rose petal and just a touch of honey. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, classic in style with plenty of tobacco-infused black fruit and a slightly abrupt finish as you might expect from a second label in a dry growing season. Drink over the next decade.

Mostly Merlot and the second wine of the estate, the 2017 Pastourelle De Clerc Milon is a pleasure-bent, plush, delicious 2017 that has ripe black cherry and currant fruits as well as classic notes of damp earth, lead pencil, and toasted spice. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, with ripe tannins and loads of charm, it's going to drink nicely for over a decade.

The 2017 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, which is not sold en primeur, is mostly Merlot at 65%. It has a clean, fresh dark cherry and cedar-scented bouquet, a touch of mint coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fresh and lively with a minty finish that offers good structure considering this is a deuxième vin . It is made to be drunk soon although personally I would give it a couple of years in bottle.
