2012 Barolo

Perno, Monteforte d’Alba. Cask sample, and the final wine will be released in 2020. Talking about old-school Barolo, this is about as old-fashioned as it gets. Deep ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Balsamic, deep nose of cherry and hints of tobacco. Old school. The tannins are like building bricks, and there is surprisingly soft acidity. Cherry and hints of chinotto. Really satisfying and long and ripe. Acidity turns up on the finish. Quite concentrated for the vintage. (WS)
