The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with apple blossom, yellow fruit, hints of hazelnut and peach skin on the nose, all beautifully defined. The palate is very well balanced with impressive concentration, taut and energetic, harmonious with a vibrant citrus-fresh blood orange-tinged finish that begs you back for more. Magnificent! The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru is located at the highest point in the vineyard next to the forest, these vines are around 70 years old. This has an elegant and understated floral bouquet that gently unfurls. The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry, fine weight and acidity, marmalade and quince jus towards a spicy finish that does not quite have the length of Pillot's other cuvées, yet still manages to impress.
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée is sensational, wafting from the glass with aromas of peach and pear mingled with oatmeal, iodine, smoke and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and ample, it's a pure, seamless, racy wine that evokes the great white Burgundies of yesteryear.
