This was the last wine I tasted before I attended the Paulée de Meursault and was so wonderful that I spurned the welcome glass of Santenay Blanc at this giant lunch party. Not rich but gorgeous. Pale gold and obviously much fuller and deeper than Leflaive's other grands crus. Rich yet so fresh! Nutty. Amazing concentrated fruit has already triumphed over the new oak. Very racy. Not heavy but extremely punchy in its impact. More muscular than most Montrachet. Great structure. (JR)
(just one barrel made; malo finished): Pale medium yellow. Superripe aromas of apricot, menthol and clove. Ripe and oily, conveying the solidity of a red wine. There's a honeyed character to the yellow fruit, spice and clove flavors. Most impressive today on the chewy, rising aftertaste, which saturates the mouth with dried fruits. A powerfully structured wine that's at the same time lush, smooth and light on its feet. (The Chevalier-Montrachet was full of appley malic acidity.)
