FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

The 2023 Latour is a wine of gorgeous purity and freshness. The nose is deliciously precise with bright floral notes and dainty berry fruit. This isn’t just prettiness, however, with a serious, earthy minerality that forms the backbone of the wine, along with present, austere but refined tannins. A very impressive wine with stunning balance. 13.2% alcohol. Blend: 92.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.7% Merlot

An ultra-classic Latour, the 2023 Château Latour is based on 92.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.7% Merlot and was aged 18 months in 100% new French oak. Currants, graphite, crayon, smoked tobacco, damp earth, and mineral notes all define the aromatics. It's tight, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated, with nicely integrated acidity, ripe yet Latour-like tannins, beautiful overall balance, and outstanding length. Representing 39.1% of the production and hitting 13.2% alcohol, it's not going to be for the instant gratification crowd and deserves a solid decade of cellaring. Drink 2033-2083.

The 2023 Latour is a great modern-day Latour, a wine that impresses more for its finesse than raw power. Nothing in particular stands out. Instead, it is the wine's precision and class that make the deepest impression. This is going to be a fascinating vintage to follow over the coming years and decades.

The 2023 Latour takes time to open on the nose, quite refined, very estuarine in style, more focused and less flamboyant than the ’22, a patina of wood to be absorbed. But everything is in place. The palate is medium-bodied with chiseled tannins, a killer line of acidity that keeps this poised and focused, rolling out toward the unpretentious, classically styled finish. Regal.
