Da bere 2028-2050, FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

Bouchard has 0.89 hectares on the Puligny side of Montrachet, with some prestigious neighbours including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The vines are up to 70 years old, lending additional concentration to this Grand Cru. The nose here is amazingly expressive with chalky minerality, lemon peel and honeysuckle mingling together, giving real lift to the aromatics. But on the palate the wine is gorgeously pure, with a creamy edge, tight citrus power and rocky density. With a long, lime-tinged finish, this is beautifully elegant Chardonnay – and a true Grand Cru

Built on a grand scale for the long term. Starts quite gently on the full-bodied palate, but it is a giant of concentration and structure. Lots of almond paste and candied lemon, but also wild herbs and chalk. And somehow all this manages to retain a grace and subtlety that makes it hard to resist. From organically grown grapes. From a 0.89 hectare plot in this world-famous site. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Cask sample. Ripe like the Chevalier-Montrachet Cabotte, openly fruity for such a young grand cru. Cedary green fruits and citrus. Chewy-creamy texture, already so amenable and harmonious. Hard to know how this will age so I am being cautious. (JH)

The 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru is striking, exhibiting even more texture and power than the benchmark 2020 vintage did at the same stage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, hazelnuts, white flowers, buttery pastry and confit orange, it's full-bodied, rich and layered, with incredible mid-palate volume and intensity. Large-scaled, textural and mouthfilling, it concludes with a long, expansive finish.
