Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2014-2018, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2014

The 2003 Barolo Mariondino is quite delicate and floral in the glass. The 2003 Mariondino is in a beautiful place now, and entering its early peak of maturity. The fruit will start to fade within the next few years, so I suggest drinking the 2003 sooner rather than later. The softness of the tannins, especially within the context of the year, and the brightness of the flavors are both commendable. This is one of the lighter-bodied, more gracious wine of the vintage. Its balance is impeccable.

Good healthy red, with a hint of amber at the rim. Fresher, spicier nose began subdued but showed good red fruit purity with aeration. A juicy, lively midweight whose bright fruit flavors barely hint at the heat of the vintage. Finishes with substantial tannins that are far more successfully buffered than those of the normale and very good lingering sweetness.

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2007

The 2003 Barolo Mariondino is an overachiever in this vintage. It is a sweet, ripe, open Barolo with a lovely core of red fruit, spices and herbs. It offers outstanding length and elegance, but needs a few more years in the bottle for the tannins to settle down.
