Renato Ratti's 2001 Barolo Marcenasco Rocche presents a typical expression of this La Morra site in its perfumed red fruit, spices and flowers. The tannins remain silky and polished throughout. Tobacco, truffles, autumn leaves and crushed flowers are some of the nuances that develop on the finish. This mid-weight Barolo is best enjoyed over the next few years, before the fruit dries out too much further.

The 2001 Barolo Rocche displays a more articulated, perfumed nose redolent of spices and toasted oak. It is rich on the palate, with layers of ripe red fruit, minerals, and menthol that unfold with great sustain and elegance. This very pretty Barolo should offer a wide window of drinkability.
Good full red. Subtle aromas of cherry, raspberry, rose petal, mocha and brown spices, with hints of tar and eucalyptus. Juicy, bright and sharply delineated, with a powerful underlying spine. Very fresh, classy Barolo with lovely restrained sweetness; not at all dominated by its new oak. Less forthcoming today than the 2000 example, but this is distinctly more primary. Finishes with firm but rather suave tannins and very good grip.
