The 2013 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda sees fruit sourced from the middle part of the Castelletto vineyard where there is a mix of lighter, sandy soils. These loose soils have impacted the wine's distinct character. The bouquet is subdued and graceful. Overall, there is less primary fruit intensity. Instead, the aromas veer towards ethereal tones of licorice, dry hazelnut and medicinal herb. The mouthfeel, on the other hand, is very direct and pointed. The tannins are firm and tight. The wine needs a few more years to get out of this more reticent phase.

Dark red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and sage are beautifully delineated in this vibrant, super-expressive Barolo. Striking in its aromatics and overall intensity, the 2013 has it all. The new Castelletto is a total knock-out from Conterno-Fantino. Don't miss it!
Monforte d’Alba. Tasted blind. Deep ruby with orange tinges. A little closed and more herbal than fruit-driven on the nose. Almost richly fruity on the palate with cherry and fruit cake. Firm, slightly drying tannins but with plenty of depth on the finish. (WS)
