La Morra. Tasted blind. Lustrous, concentrated ruby with bright orange tinges. Firm but closed on the nose, a little dusty and with a suggestion of gingerbread. Ripe fruit with supple acidity and candied fruit notes on the finish and with sandy tannins. A little innocent for this cru, but not without merit. Ready now. (WS)

The Renato Corino 2017 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is rich and darkly concentrated with plum, cherry and blackcurrant. There are additional background notes of spice, toasted hazelnut and campfire ember. With fruit from La Morra, this hot-vintage expression is indeed more powerful, concentrated and thickly layered overall. The tannins are still astringent, and although they will soften, I'm not sure they will ever fully integrate.
The 2017 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is such a pleasure to taste. I feel like I am in La Morra, in Rocche dell'Annunziata, looking down the patchwork of parcels on this steep hillside. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spice and sweet red/purplish berry fruit notes abound. More than anything though, the 2017 is distinguished by its silky tannins and exceptional balance. In a word: sublime.
