Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2023-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2022

The 2018 Barolo Cerequio is an attractive mid-weight wine. Dark red/cherry plum fruit, mocha, leather, spice and incense all grace this supple, silky Barolo. There's lovely creaminess and plenty of allure in this tasty Barolo from Michele Chiarlo.

La Morra. Mid ruby. Quite pure and focused with shy cherry fruit and hints of black tea leaves. Pure and gentle on the palate with a fine acidic nerve running through the ripe fruit. Soft, grainy but persistent tannins on the finish. Long, gentle sappy and elegant on the finish and finely balanced. Ready now. (WS)

The Michele Chiarlo 2018 Barolo Cerequio opens to a pretty lacework of aromas with smaller berry fruits, crushed stone, rusty nail, pressed lilac or blue flower and a dusting of spicy licorice powder. The bouquet is vertical and tight, leading to a very precise succession of varietal tones that flavor the wine's polished finish. The Cerequio has ample power as well, with etched tannins that grip this Nebbiolo firmly to the palate.

A delicious wine filled with signature Barolo power and finesse. Opens with raspberry leaf and tobacco, widens out into red cherry, smoked earth, tar and sweet raspberry puree, with a sweep upwards through the final finish that gives mouthwatering tension. Finely-boned tannins but plenty of them, and overall this is a delicous wine from a 3ha site close to La Morra at 320m altitude, using traditional 55hl oak vats for fermentation. Appearing for the first time on the place de Bordeaux with this vintage.
