The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is a strong effort in this more challenging vintage, redolent of orange oil, white flowers, toasted nuts and iodine. Medium- to full-bodied, bright and satiny, it can't however match the concentration of surrounding vintages.

(not much frost here): Bright medium yellow. Deep aromas of ripe peach, mirabelle , hazelnut and butter complicated by leesy and sulfidey nuances. Quite rich and silky but with good grip. This wine is a bit lower in acidity and energy than the 2017 version but shows a seriously tactile quality and a bit of the phenolic aspect of the 2017 Meursault Charmes-Dessus. Finishes broad and slightly aggressive, without the class of the 2017 Perrières.
I suspect a step back from the 2015, yet still a brilliant wine, the 2016 Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes 1Er Cru offers classic white flowers, spice, and orchard-like fruits as well as a liquid rock-like minerality, building richness, and medium body. Like the 2015, it has a vibrant, pure, elegant style and will be a joy to drink.
