Much more fragrant after the dodgy Champans. Pretty sweet fruit but still quite dry texture. Needs more fruit at the core. Disappointing for the price, even if you like a more delicate style. (JH)

The 2017 Volnay Caillerets 1er Cru needs a little coaxing from the glass, eventually offering redcurrant, raspberry preserve and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with good density in the mouth, very harmonious with a fine bead of acidity. This Cailleret feels quite tender towards the finish with a touch of spice lingering on the aftertaste. So pretty.
