2003 Volnay Clos des Chenes

Deep red. Candied raspberry and cherry, spices, roasted meat and gunflint on the primary nose. Youthful and juicy in the mouth, with the underlying structure and firm acidity to give shape to the wine's creamy sweetness. This offers lovely finesse and lift. The wine's tannins tightened up as the wine sat in the glass. As a result of some recent replanting here, this vintage is made entirely from old vines planted on rock. A superb showing.
