Note di degustazione
The 2003 Barolo Ravera is darker, richer and more resonant than the straight Barolo, with the weight and resonance of the year very much in evidence. Plums, cloves, licorice, mocha, smoke and tobacco all meld together in an exotic, full-bodied Barolo loaded with personality. Rich and explosive on the palate, the 2003 is a head spinning, flashy Barolo that marries the ripeness of the year with a classic sense of structure. Today the Ravera is firing on all cylinders.

Good healthy deep red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, mocha, musky underbrush and nutty oak. Silky, lush and deep, with impressive power to the flavors of strawberry and dried rose; stronger red fruit tones emerged with aeration. This wine combines an expansive, seamless mouth feel with excellent verve, thanks to ripe, harmonious acidity. Finishes quite long, with sweetish tannins.
Cogno's Barolo Ravera is a wine that sometimes comes across as austere, but in 2003the heat has filled out the wine's frame nicely, giving it an attractive plumpness and soft, accessible personality. Today it is primary, with just the barest hints of macerated cherries and spices coming through, but it should be superb in another few years once the full range of aromatics have developed in the bottle. this gorgeous, poised Barolo should drink well to age 15, perhaps beyond.

Cogno is another one of those properties that always seems to fly below most people’s radar screens, which is unfortunate because the wines are consistently excellent.
