From a village parcel just below Les Pucelles and Clos des Meix, this is always so different to Clos des Noyers Brets – with fleshier fruit. It’s playful on the nose, with different facets and fruits emerging with air. It’s broader on the palate, revealing its proximity to Premier Cru territory. A fantastic showing, it’s the best edition of this wine to date. With only a barrel produced, it’s bottled exclusively in magnum. The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

Slightly more elegant aromas include those of smoke, cool pear and apple along with a plethora of floral elements. Here too there is a lovely texture to the caressing medium-bodied flavors that firm up on the bitter lemon and beautifully textured finish. This is very Puligny in character and a wine that should repay extended keeping in magnum format. Drink 2034+
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet La Rue Aux Vaches, which suffered some blockage in the vineyard, has quite a concentrated bouquet with scents of white peach, lemon curd and pressed flowers, not intense but certainly well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with a deftly judged line of acidity. Perhaps a little restrained compared to other cuvées from Pernot, and I'm just seeking more mineralité on the finish here. This is only bottled en magnum.
Made in magnums only, as ever for this cuvée. The vines were blocked by thermic stress, so the grapes were picked last but hadn’t really kicked on. So lower alcohol. Clean pale lemon colour. The bouquet is more reticent than one might have expected. The fruit shows pure fresh apples, there is adequate flesh, a mineral tingle and fair length with a tangy touch. Correct more than stunning.
