Generous ripeness with plenty of candied-orange character give this a lot of upfront appeal. Unashamedly full body and broad shoulders, but this also has lively acidity that balances all that very well, giving it quite some drive at the bold finish. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is showing very nicely, offering up aromas of citrus oil, pear and fresh apricot, complemented by hints of pastry cream and warm bread. Medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy, with lively acids and an ample core of fruit, it concludes with a precise, mineral finish.
Barrel sample. Quite a sweet nose. Then a slightly old-fashioned crisp grip on the palate without letting the fruit really express itself. (JR)
