The 2014 Barolo Prapò speaks in whispers, not in a loud voice. This Nebbiolo offers delicate tones of rose hip, forest berry, toast, scorched earth and truffle. The mouthfeel is subdued in terms of flavor intensity but not in terms of texture. In fact, that thin and compact feeling is actually surprisingly firm, silky and long. Some 6,500 bottles were released.

Ceretto's 2014 Barolo Prapò is gorgeous. Lifted, perfumed and full of life, the Prapò is a terrific example of the year. The 2014 captures the brooding personality of Serralunga beautifully while retaining a striking sense of translucency and overall nuance. Muscular, sinewy tannins enshroud this deceptively mid-weight Barolo from Ceretto.
Serralunga d’Alba. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with bright bricky rim. Cherry liqueur and crushed raspberry. Lots of supple cherry fruit with a sweet edge and soft grainy tannins. Grows in complexity on the finish. (WS)
The 2014 Barolo Prapò presents an unusually floral, bright expression of Serralunga, with a bit less power than is typical, but more finesse. Sage, orange peel and dried cherry notes take on exotic shades of dimension. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 gains a bit more body and weight in bottle. This is in a decidedly fresh, nuanced style for Serralunga, but it works. The Prapò is one of many 2014s I tasted that could turn out even better than this note suggests.
