For Ginestra, this is held back an additional year of time in bottle, so the 2018 is the current release. The 2018 Barolo Ginestra takes on even more elegance as well as concentration in its notes of incense, rose petal, and raspberry liqueur. Fine on the palate, with an elegant balance of pure apricot, Asian spice, and wild strawberry, it is inviting and ready to drink now or over the next 20 years.

The 2018 Barolo Ginestra is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, smoke, graphite, leather and tobacco add to an impression of virile intensity. It's not clear to me that Ginestra can carry a wine on its own in every vintage. The 2018 makes that pretty clear. Ultimately, this feels a bit heavy.
Monforte d'Alba. Mid ruby with orange tinges. An enticing nose of raspberry, blood orange and iron. Taut lively red-fruit and sweet raspberry palate lined with bags chewy tannins. Gorgeous length but very tannic. (WS)
The 2018 Barolo Ginestra is marked by a very strong spine of tannin that lends energy and power. All of the classic saline, mineral and balsamic notes of Ginestra come through. I am not sure there is enough fruit though. The 2018 boasts impressive power, persistence and drive, but whether or not it will ever be in balance is very much an open question. The 2018 spent 22 months in cask.
