The 1999 Chevalier-Montrachet is simply dazzling. A wine of mind-blowing intensity and total class, the 1999 is magnificent from the moment it is first poured. In fact, the 1999 may be one of my favorite vintages of the d'Auvenay Chevalier period. The interplay of tension, purity and lushness of fruit is utterly breathtaking. I am shocked by how fresh the 1999 is today. It is another absolutely stunning wine from Lalou Bize-Leroy.

Greenish gold. Strong matchstick character on the nose. Almond notes. Cool and refreshing rather than rich. Dry and bracing – the ultimate wake-up call? Underneath is really precise fruit. A thoroughly exciting wine. (JR)
The 1999 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a gold-standard "killer" nose with astonishing delineation and intensity: citrus peel, cold wet limestone and a faint touch of freshly baked pop-corn. There is just a trace of reduction here. The palate is beautifully poised, refined and saline, exuding immense energy right from the start. It is quite linear in style with hints of fresh pear, yellow plum and a very persistent, captivating finish that just lingers forever. Outstanding. 814 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.
