Aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, green stone fruits and marzipan introduce the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, racy and precise wine with a fleshy core of delicately sun-kissed fruit. This is a bright, focused Beaune that represents a fine success for de Montille.

Baked apple, rose petal and lemon juice. Full body, soft acid, floury texture. Ripe and full, almost to the point where the acidity gets a little soft. (RH)
The 2017 Beaune Les Aigrots Blanc 1er Cru is back to a normal production volume. In fact, as much was produced in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 combined! It has an attractive bouquet with orange blossom, mandarin and light spicy aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, slightly waxy in texture with an attractive, rather phenolic finish. Very fine.
Everything was done in the cellar to maintain the freshness of this rather extrovert white Beaune. Some pineapple and pink grapefruit, but also plenty of pear and an attractive creaminess from the lees, neatly wrapped around a gently tannic core. Drink or hold.

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
