Very dark color. Lively aromas of blueberry and violet. Juicy and intense, with very ripe, sweet dark berry and chocolate flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity and saline minerality. This wine includes the Volnay Clos des Angles fruit, since production in this premier cru parcel was too small to make a separate cuvée .

Blended with the Les Pitures and Mitans as usual, the 2016 Volnay 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with pure blackberry and bilberry fruit, focused and what you might describe as tidy. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely blackberry and redcurrant fruits, something refreshingly bucolic about this premier cru, a little short but delicious.

Marquis d'Angerville is synonymous with the village of Volnay, having long made some of the village’s finest wines. Best known for its Premier Cru monopole vineyard, Clos des Ducs, this estate crafts fine-boned, elegant styles of Pinot Noir – wines that act as standard-bearers for the appellation.
