The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Sous Le Puits 1er Cru offers orchard fruit on the nose, a little more exotic in style than François Carillon's Champ Gain, yet still pure and attractive. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, slightly bitter and edgy in style, fine length yet coarser than some of its peers. Returning after 10 minutes I find this coheres nicely and surpasses the aforementioned Sous Le Puits in terms of concentration and presence. Drink over the next 15 years or so. The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits opens in the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil, toasted almonds and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, open-knit and charming, it's giving and generous, with lively acids and a chalky finish.
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Sous le Puits 1er Cru comes from one of my favorite if oft over-looked vineyards, in the upper contours of the appellation in Blagny, on mainly marn soils. It has a cool, refined bouquet, the altitude imparting sharper, more malic aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fresh marmalade-tinged, lightly spiced entry. This is an intense, harmonious Sous le Puits, delivering a mouth-coating, very persistent and satisfying finish that is absolutely adorable. One to watch carefully once in bottle. Superb.
