The 2004 Barolo is a pretty, accessible wine ideal for near-term drinking. Medium in body, it offers attractive suggestions of dark cherries, flowers and spices with excellent length and lovely balance. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014. This is the first vintage Giuliano Corino has made on his own, and a distinct style is beginning to emerge. He appears to favor a more elegant, restrained approach while his brother Renato’s wines are decidedly riper and more exuberant, very much like their personalities. Medium red with a brick rim. Expressive aromas of plum, brown spices and dried flowers. Supple on entry, then a bit dry-edged, with a hint of menthol and limited sweetness of fruit. Finishes with chewy, somewhat tough tannins. Rather austere today.
