Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2016-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2016

The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva offers plenty of power, but the French oak has dried out the fruit and left the wine with searing tannins. As with all of these 2005s, the wine's bright acidity will allow it to hold on for at least a handful of years. Still, I don't see much upside from further cellaring.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2015-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2010

The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva is a dense, powerful, fruit-driven Barbaresco that is virtually impenetrable at this stage. This old-vines selection from Cotta and Pajore remains incredibly primary and youthful. Dark fruit, smoke, leather and tar are just some of the notes that linger on the massive yet impressively round, harmonious close.

Sottimano’s 2007 Barbareschi have been impressive every time I have tasted them, starting from barrel a few years ago, to two tastings from bottle in recent months. Readers owe it to themselves to check out these exceptional, beautiful hand-crafted wines. Various American importers, including: Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY; tel.
