Note di degustazione
The 2009 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo comes from a vineyard located closer to the Tanaro River. The sun shines bright here and the site is known for its heat, power and structure. You certainly feel it in the 2009 vintage. The wine opens to soft cherry and blackberry flavors that are contrasted against dark extract and long menthol endnotes. The wine presents sweet flavors with lush texture and soft tannins. Riserva Rio Sordo shows immediate, ready appeal.

Good full red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry, marzipan, smoke and tobacco. Supple and broad but youthfully unforthcoming today, hinting at menthol. Finishes with substantial dusty, slightly drying tannins. Not showing its fruit today.
Dark red cherries, tobacco, menthol, licorice and mint waft from the glass in the 2009 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo. This is an unusually dark, powerful Rio Sordo (within the context of the vintage) with fewer of the open, floral qualities that are the hallmark of this site. Today, the Rio Sordo is quite powerful and intense. It will be interesting to see if the finesse of this site develops with time.
