Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2017-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2015

Massolino's 2011 Barolo Parafada does a great job of portraying the brawny and muscular side of Serralunga d'Alba. But it does so with an elegant touch. Thick tannins wrap over the palate and the wine boasts very long persistence that is carried forward in thick waves of plump fruit and spice. Sweet blackberry, clove and cinnamon appears on the close. Barolo Parafada needs five years or more before it begins to shed some of that chunky baby fat.

Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Fuller on the nose than the 2011 Margheria and really minerally. Almost salty cherry fruit on the palate and with just the right dose of acidity and fine, firm tannins on the finish. Perhaps just a tiny bit less vibrant on the palate than Margheria, at least for the moment. (WS)

The 2011 Barolo Parafada presents a totally different side of Serralunga in its floral, savory personality. Iron, smoke, tobacco, savory herbs and menthol open up in the glass, but it is the wine's firm tannins and overall sense of blossoming structure that stand out above all else. While the Margheria is a bit more overt in style, the Parafada showcases the floral/savory/mineral aspects of Serralunga.

Massolino's 2011 Barolo Parafada is similarly powerful, but wines from this site are often ample in style. Black cherries, tar, smoke and licorice all race across the palate in this overt, explosive Barolo loaded with personality. The Parafada is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine.
