Medium red. Highly perfumed aromas of fresh strawberry and minerals. Sweet and gripping in the mouth, showing superb nuance and verve to its red fruit and menthol flavors. Wonderfully juicy young Barolo with a vibrant, echoing finish. Displays a clear limestone character in its back-end minerality and thrust.

24 months in oak, 75% new. A little further down the hill than the Ciabot Mentin but still Ginestra. Mid ruby, with some brick at the rim. Gloriously fragrant red fruit and just a light spice. Firm and firmly extracted on the palate, not as fresh as I had expected from the nose. More dried fruit. Intense with a lightly bitter freshness on the finish. Dense and very long. (JH)
The 2009 Barolo Pajana also shows supple softness and immediate richness. I love the energy and the pure tension. There’s a unique brightness or crispness to the fruit that so perfectly balances out those emboldened layers of oak, spice and tobacco. The style is modern and muscular but all that strength is delivered in a silken glove. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. Importer: Michael Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300
The 2009 Barolo Pajana is a pretty wine laced with sweet red berries, savory herbs, freshly cut flowers and spices. This soft, pleasing Barolo is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. The 2009 is unusually soft and supple for a young Clerico Barolo. It has plenty of length and lovely overall balance.
