FINE+RARE, Oct 2022

This Premier Cru comes from two domaine-owned plots, purchased in 2017, totalling 1.2 hectares. In 2021, it’s nutty with a generous mouthful of white peach and the village’s characteristic gloss, but held in check by a sherbet edge and pithy lemon-and-lime freshness. Generous in texture with a concentrated core, this is hard to resist.

A wonderfully mineral, sleek and focused Meursault with aromas of lemons, white pears, apricots, flint and some white pepper. Medium- to full-bodied, creamy but so bright, with chalky minerality coming through. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from a relatively large plot that I feel gives it an advantage this year. It has a fragrant bouquet with peach skin, grilled hazelnut and light orange rind scents that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine weight on the entry. There's plenty of extract here, and a pleasant pithiness comes through toward the finish. This should drink well over the next 20 years.

The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes (Domaine Louis Jadot) reveals aromas of freshly baked bread, citrus oil, white flowers and mint. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and an open-knit profile, it concludes with a moderately persistent finish.
