The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has an intense nose with yellow fruit, pear and beeswax. With moderate delineation, it becomes blowsier with continued aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, sharp and a bit angular in style with a somewhat short and slightly volatile finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Scents of pear, citrus oil, wheat toast, anise, nutmeg and white flowers introduce the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles, a medium to full-bodied, ample and expressive wine that's bright but open-knit, displaying a charming, giving profile.
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru is lighter on the nose than the Les Encegnières and as such, not quite as engaging. The palate has a peachy opening, moderate depth, lovely tropical tones, although it needs more tension and terroir expression on the finish. Not bad, but I think the 2018 was better last year.
