2016 Barolo

The 2016 Barolo Perno is a dark, brooding beauty. Deeply spiced, mentholated notes wrap around a core of red cherry/plum fruit. Wild herbs, game, tobacco, cedar and leather open with a bit of coaxing. Mystery, seduction and unreal complexity start to emerge with a bit of air. Readers will find a potent, strapping Barolo with plenty of tannin and acid. Tasting Elio Sandri’s 2016 Barolo Perno is like stepping into the past. As I have written before, this is a very distinct style of Barolo that is just not made any more.
