One of the most elegant, ethereal wines in the cellar is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, a single-barrel cuvée that wafts from the glass with scents of rose petals, orange rind, sweet red berries and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and perfumed, with melting tannins and succulent acids, it will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2019 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru felt comparatively closed following after the Les Brouillards, offering aromas of tightly wound, earthy black fruit mixed with autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry. This is a structured, burly Les Caillerets, although it needs a little more precision and tension on the finish, which feels slightly blunt at the moment.
