The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a muted nose that lacks the expression and mineral core of its peers. It doesn't have the same "flow" and refuses to develop in the glass. The palate is pithy and viscous in texture. There's a lot of extract here, though it currently translates more of the winery than of the terroir. It's not bad, but it feels a bit predictable and lacks the flair of the top Premier Crus tasted in this vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

(Don't Miss!)<br /> A highly layered and fresh nose somewhat grudgingly offers up a panoply of white orchard fruit aromas that are laced with hints of lemon-lime and almost as many floral nuances as the Truffière. The rich, suave and powerful broad-shouldered flavors remain surprisingly refined while displaying superb length on the very compact and tightly wound finale that just goes on and on. This strikingly well-balanced finale is packed with potential, but it is presently so primary and backward that I would strongly caution that you not even think about opening a bottle for at least 5 years and 10 would be better. In a word, magnificent.
