Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, toasted bread, praline and white flowers, framed by a touch of youthful reduction, Germain's 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with fine concentration, chalky structuring extract and tangy acids. Elegantly muscular and penetrating, this is a seamless, complete Charmes.
The 2019 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru has a lifted nose, although for me there is a bit too much oak that occludes the fruit profile at the moment. Leaving the glass aside for five minutes, a light wet clay scent develops. The palate is based around what clearly must be a low pH, full of tension and nerve, and displaying just the right amount of bitterness toward the finish. The energy in this nascent wine should ensure longevity.
