The 2020 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a generous bouquet. It's a little richer than Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet's BBM. Orange pith commingles with wild peach, crushed limestone and even a faint scent of strawberry. The palate is mineral-driven with a crisp line of acidity. It's mineral-rich with the same sapidity as the aforementioned BBM. Perhaps even more tensile and spicier on the finish, this knockout wine will give 20+ years of drinking pleasure. The 2020 Bievenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has quite a strict flinty bouquet that complements that subtle citric fruit, hints of lemon verbena and lemon thyme. The palate is very well balanced with a livewire acidity quite remarkable given the warm summer, though it remains strict on the finish, saving its goodies for those with the nous to cellar.
The 2020 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is more reserved, unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic fruits, honeycomb, white flowers, freshly baked bread and waxy citrus rind. Full-bodied, rich and ample, it's satiny, seamless and complete, with lively acids and a long, youthfully firm finish. This shows considerable promise.
