The 2020 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a nuanced bouquet with lemon thyme, orange blossom and a subtle crushed stone note underneath. Lemon curd and blood orange aromas appear later on. The oak here seems well-integrated. The palate is concentrated and well-balanced. The silver bead of acidity maintains tension with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. It gains weight and cohesion on the glass to create a compelling Les Charmes that has clicked up through the gears since I tasted it from barrel. Chapeau! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru comes from an exchange of must, two barrels this year. This cuvée was a little timid when I tasted it, perhaps suffering from following the Meursault, though it seems well defined. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, tangerine and nectarine notes with a slightly more simpler finish that other cuvées within Alvina Pernot’s range. Still this is a fine Puligny.
Medium lemon colour, not much nose, though a little riper than the Blagny. Lovely balance on the palate, plenty of ripe white fruit, apples and pears too, with a saline note running through the middle. Tension as much as needed with a good long aftertaste.
