Revisited in bottle, Lamy's 2019 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Haute Densité has turned out even better than I predicted. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of orange oil, pear, freshly baked bread, beeswax, dried white flowers and stone fruit pits, this profound white Burgundy is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with prodigious reserves of concentration and chalky structuring extract, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. Seamless and complete, this is a monument in the making.

A slightly riper though not exotic nose features the pure essence of pear, apple, citrus and plenty of spice wisps. I very much like the gorgeous texture that is also due to the very sappy and concentrated level of dry extract that again serves to buffer the decidedly firm acid spine supporting the superbly long and complex finale. This stunningly good effort is very clearly built-to-age over the long-term and I wouldn't touch a bottle for at least a decade.
(5-Star Wine)<br /> 1 x 228 barrel from 2013, as for the Puligny. Pale lemon and lime. Very little bouquet, but we are now tasting in freezing conditions. Starts to emerge and it is really fine boned, not massive Montrachet. Brilliantly balanced stylish and fine, with volume, but absolutely without heat. Gorgeous, with a really long finish in a fine pure white style.
